How to Download Instagram Reels on iPhone (2026)
Safari can save a reel straight to Photos. Here is the whole process, and the two places it usually goes wrong.
The short version
- In Instagram, open the reel and tap the paper-plane / share icon, then Copy link.
- Open Safari and go to the downloader.
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- When the preview appears, tap Save, then choose Download in Safari's prompt.
- Open the Files app → Downloads, tap the video, then Share → Save Video to put it in Photos.
Why the extra step? iOS treats an MP4 as a file download, not a photo. Safari drops it into Files first; the Save Video step is what moves it into your camera roll.
Step by step with screenshots in mind
1. Copy the reel link
Instagram's own Save button (the bookmark icon) only bookmarks the post inside the app. It does not put a file on your phone, and the reel disappears from your saved list if the creator deletes it. To get an actual file you need the link.
Tap the share icon under the reel and choose Copy link. The link looks like https://www.instagram.com/reel/XXXXXXXXX/.
2. Paste it into the downloader
Open the reels downloader in Safari and paste the link. The Paste button reads your clipboard directly if iOS lets it; otherwise long-press the field and choose Paste.
3. Save the file
You will see the reel with a Save button. Tapping it starts a normal Safari download. Check the blue download arrow in the address bar to watch progress.
4. Move it into Photos
Open Files → Downloads, tap the MP4, hit the share icon and choose Save Video. It now appears in your camera roll like any other video.
Common problems
